OLD BOOKS

Just a heads up! I cleaned out my classroom library today and gave the kiddos lots of USED books to take home with them.  I told them that they were USED (and some weren't in very good condition) so they could throw them away after they read them.  Some were old stories that they might not be interested in once they start reading them, but they still wanted them.  So feel free to get rid of them!!!  They were all hand me downs given kindly by other teachers when I moved into first grade.

Books Still Not Claimed

I still have two books from the book order back in September that still have not been claimed.  Look at your checkbooks to see if these books belong to your kiddo! 

National Geographic Kids-One book was $1.00 and the other was $4.99.

Shaving Cream Spelling!!

PJ DAY and Frosty!

On Friday, kiddos can wear their PJ's and bring slippers while we watch Frosty, the Snowman.  If you don't want your kiddo to watch that movie, just send me an email and I can have them go to another classroom during that time.

Also, kiddos WILL still be going to recess so make sure they have a WARM pair of pj's that they can also wear outside!

Oh, and don't forget your favorite stuffed animal!

WINTER Artwork!

We're starting off our Wednesday morning talking about winter and doing some winter artwork!

We're working on....

This week, we are really working on reading and spelling words with "sh", "th", "ch", and "wh."  We call them the "H Brothers!"  Sherman, Theo, Charlie and Whit.  Ask your kiddo about them!  I bet they can tell you something about each one of them!

Update on my son

Thank you for your thoughtful emails about my son.  I just wanted to let you know that the doctor called an antibiotic in for him so we're hoping that will clear this virus up and we can get back to our normal life.  (and actually be at school!!)

Thanks again for understanding and for thinking of my family and me.  I appreciate it so much!

Hey everyone! I just wanted to let you know that I'm out again today.  My little guy still has a fever...I took him to the doctor again yesterday and they checked for strep and checked his ears....They determined it is just a virus... And just fyi, they said they've been seeing alot of this virus and it could last up to 7 days!!  (UGH!)  Don't worry, I'm washing my hands like crazy!!!

Tell the kiddos that I missed them today!!!!  I was there yesterday so at least I got to see their little faces one day this week!  The substitute did a good job on Monday-They were able to tell me what they learned on Tuesday and were very proud!  Mrs. Demmel is there today so I'm sure they'll have a great day today, too! She's subbed for me many times in third grade and is great with the kiddos.  Very loving. :)

Class Books

Last week, we made a class book on our holiday traditions.  Each kiddo will take the book home one night to share with their family.  Look for it to be coming home within the next 20 days!

Also, today we are working on a class book that tells what we would do if we were one of Santa's elves.  Look for that book to come home soon too!

Be sure to send it back the very next day so that all kiddos get the joy of sharing their writing and the writing of their classmate's with their family! :)

Early dismissal tomorrow!

Just a reminder that the kiddos will be dismissed at 11:45 tomorrow due to conferences!  See you all tomorrow or Friday morning!! I can't wait to share your child's progress with you!!!

Student Conferences

I just met with each of your kiddos to share their report card with them.  They were very excited to see their progress! I am smiling ear to ear right now because I can see how proud they are of themselves!! 

Report cards are coming home today!

I will be sending your copy of the report card home today with your child.  Please look over it and let me know if you have any questions.  We can discuss at our conference this week!  I'm sooo proud of all of the progress that these kiddos have made so far this year!  It is so exciting to see them reading!!!

Did you know you have a middle name, too??

This morning, we talked about first, middle and last names.  Many kiddos didn't know their middle names.  We'll be reviewing them this week so they will be sure to know them by the end of the week!

Also, next week we'll be working on knowing phone numbers.  Please write down the phone number that you would most like your child to memorize on their calendar in their red behavior folder.  That way, I can make sure we're practicing the right number.

We're playing a days of the week game!

At this point, your child should know the days of the week and be able to tell you what the day of the week is, what day comes before and after it, and which days they spend at home for the weekend.

Also, your child should be able to tell you the months of the year in order and should be able to tell you the current month and what came before and what comes after the current month.

Enjoying some painting time this afternoon!

Here's a glimpse of a project that we're working on for our Cocoa Cafe.  It goes with a very special "secret" story about what snowmen do at night.  We can't wait to share our stories with you in January!! 

Also, if there is anyone out there that would be willing to play some sing-along songs for kids on their guitar at the cafe, let me know! :)

Look at my quiet students taking their reading test today!  We tried something new today-we took the test piece by piece and the students became "teachers" and graded their own work.  You should have heard them as they cheered or sighed if they got the answer right or wrong.  Awesome immediate feedback for learning! :)

Change of time for Snowball Express

Due to a holiday concert at the middle school that our class will be attending, the kiddos in room 21 will now attend the Snowball Express on Wednesday, December 12th at 10:30. Thanks!

What a fun way to start the morning!  We were chorus reading this morning and I was calling "girls," "boys," "kiddos wearing blue," etc and I said, "Anyone with stinky feet."  It was so funny to watch the kiddos smell their feet to see if they qualified to read!  Too cute! :)

This week, I will be putting up a small holiday tree in our classroom.  If you would like, you can send in an ornament with your child to put on the tree.  Before the holiday break, each kiddo that brought an ornament in, will be allowed to pick a different ornament to take home with them.  You will not get the ornament that you sent in back.  Happy Exchanging! :)

The Snowball Express is coming soon!

Info on "The Snowball Express," a place for your kiddos to shop for their family members this holiday, will be coming home today.  A schedule is being developed as to when our class will attend.  I will let you know via blog when I find out.  Kiddos can bring money to shop and buy small things for their family members and friends.  This is the first year that our school is doing this so I don't know details until I go, but I remember doing it when I was little and it was so neat to have surprises for everyone during the holidays.  (Surprises that mom didn't help us pick out or didn't know about!)  More info to come!!

Important info regarding lunch tomorrow!

I surveyed the kiddos today and there are quite a few that do not like turkey.  So....I would suggest that if your kiddo doesn't like turkey, mashed potatoes and corn (the main part of the meal) to send a sandwich along to go with their meal. If they usually buy, that's okay too!

Thanksgiving feast is tomorrow!

Just a reminder that our Thanksgiving feast is tomorrow!  Set up is going to begin at 11 so if you have anything to bring in, please drop it off between 11 and 11:15.  You can tell the office that you're here for the feast and bring things to the large group room, located right next to the cafeteria.  Mrs. Gearhart will be there to show you where to put it.  (Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!) If you have something that can be sent with your kiddo, feel free to just send it in the morning.  The kids will begin eating at 11:30. 

This is my first time participating in this feast-I'm excited!  I hope it's a fun time for the kids! Thanks for all of your donations!!!!!

JUNIE B JONES ASSEMBLY ROCKED!

Sorry there wasn't much blogging this morning! We just got back from a Junie B Jones assembly at the elementary school.  As you can see in the picture above, the kiddos were completely engaged!  It was a great lesson on friendship, the changes that take place from kindergarten to first grade, setting goals and believing in yourself.  Kudos to PTO for finding a super show for us!!
