Today's Lunch
Just in case your kiddo comes home with a full lunch in their lunchbox, or they tell you that they didn't buy school lunch today, please know that Oyinkansola's parents are buying pizza for the whole class for her birthday. They'll also enjoy drinks and cupcakes! Oyinkansola is moving next year so this is an extra special celebration for her. :)

DIBELS
YAY FOR ROOM 21 FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Students in room 21 were tested on Wednesday for the last time this school year. They were tested on how many nonsense words they could read in a minute and how many real words in a passage they could read in a minute. My class ROCKED those scores!!!
Coming home in your child's folder tonight is a visual graph that I created of their scores. The WWR means whole words read (these are the nonsense words). The ORF means oral reading fluency and that's how many regular words from a passage that they could read in a minute. I drew a black line where the end of year goal is. Most kiddos have surpassed that end of year goal already! A few are still working on it but very close!
Besides looking at the end of year goal, be sure to look at the progress that your child has made. The growth made from September to January was great, but the growth made from January to April was even more impressive!!!!
WOOHOO!!!!! I am thrilled with their scores!!! Make sure you treat them to a special ice cream or something for working so hard this year! :)

Science Homework- Due Friday!
Kiddos are to bring in or make a house for their rock by Friday. It can be made out of anything- a tissue box, legos, whatever! Just something to house their rock. It MUST be smaller than a small paper place though! They were told that if it's bigger than that, they will have to take it home and start again! These rock pets are running around wildly! They need houses!! :)

WOWEEEE!!!
By the way, you should SEE THE AMAZING informational writing that your children did this week! They researched animals and wrote about them. I am seriously blown away by how well they did! I will have their writing hung up for Young Learner's Showcase. By the way, Young Learner's Showcase is on May 16th from 6-7:30. Hope everyone will be able to make it! If you've never been to one before, it's a time when students can share some of the things they've been working on this last trimester.
Working hard.......:)
Can you believe how far your kiddos have come since the beginning of the school year???? I'm sooo impressed with their incredible progress!! They went from writing ABC's to writing stories!!!! WOOHOO!!!!! :)

Reading Tests-Change
Just a heads up-for the next 3 weeks, your child will not be taking a reading test. Instead, we will be completing the reading tests together in order to practice test-taking. I will be stressing the importance of reading all of the answers and crossing off the answers that don't sound right. They will still bring the test home but it won't be graded because we did it all together. :)

How much money all together??
Today, we continued our practice with adding money. By the end of first grade, students should be able to count change up to $1.00. If you have any opportunities for them to help you count change, please let them! The more practice, the better! And they enjoy doing it, too!

We love animals!
Today, we began our animal research. This was very exciting! The kids did a great job reading about their animal and taking notes about what it looks like.
