Rockin' Dr. Seuss Readers!!

Wow!  Check out these rockin' readers!  They read a whole Dr. Seuss book to the class to celebrate Read Across America week!  Way to go, kiddos!!

Funny story.....

I couldn't help sharing this funny story... This is why I LOVE teaching so much!!!!

Another teacher and I talked to a kiddo today (whom we share) about not eating during class.  The kiddo generally likes to munch on candy and carrots throughout the day.  So about an hour later, we were back together, praising the child for working so hard during math.  As we're talking to him, he reaches into his pocket, pulls out a carrot and takes a big crunch.

Such an innocent little first grader.  I looked around for hidden cameras, but nope, I wasn't being "punked." 

All I could do was say, "Shove it in your mouth and get to computer class."  It was just too funny.

Picture Day

Picture day will be on Wednesday, March 6th.  We got lucky! We are the first class to be photographed at 9:00am.  Picture order forms are coming home today and are due that day before we get our pictures taken.

Lockdown Drill

Tomorrow, our school will be practicing a lockdown drill.  Today, I spoke with students about what to do in this situation.   I just told them that this is another practice drill that we do, just like a fire drill.  If you have any questions, just let me know!

Dr. Seuss Party-CHANGE OF DATE

I had originally planned our Dr. Seuss party for March 8th, thinking that was Read Across America day.  However, Read Across America Day is March 1st.  We have early dismissal that day so we will not be able to have our party from 2-3.  SOOO... I realize that some of you may have planned to come on March 8th and I apologize for the change, but after giving it much thought, I think it will be best to have our Read Across America Party on Thursday, February 28th from 2-3.  If you volunteered to send something in, please send it in before that day.  Thank you so much!!!!!!

Next week, I am getting a new pet my mom said.  I am getting a guinea pig.  I was so excited because they are so cute.  Especially their little nose.  Finally, it was next week.  We went there in my mom's car.  We are here, Rebecca.  Ya! I said.  So we went inside.  The guy said what are you looking for, dog food?  No we are getting a guinea pig.  Oh, the mean said.  He showed us where they are.  I got one that was one second old.  She was so cute.  I named her Mindy.  Since she was just born, I got her mom too.  So I got two guinea pigs and it did not cost extra which was good.  Then, we got home and I fed her.  I had to use a bottle and I put it in her mouth.  She is so cute.  My friend came over and I let her feed her.  It's been an hour so she left and said, I love your new pet.  So do I.  I felt really excited that I got them.

Is anyone selling.....??

Totally unrelated to school....

The new fundraiser for sports teams, daycares, etc. is a discount card.  Has anyone heard of them?  It's a card with the club/team's name on the front and lots of great discounts on the back.  The discounts are usually for a certain area. 

Anyway, I was just wondering if anyone's children is selling one of those discount cards for the Hershey area or if you know anyone that is?  If so, I'd love to take a look at it and see if my kiddos/family and I regularly visit any of the places that are offering discounts.

WOW WRITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Last week and this week, we are talking about adding "colorful" details to our writing!!  Kudos to all of room 21 friends for working so hard today to add colorful details to their writing!!!

NEXT WEEK.....

Hello everyone!  I have decided to "reteach" the reading lessons that I taught this week again next week.  Somehow, I got ahead of the other teachers by a week so this will work out just right.  This will be a great review for those kiddos that were here this week and an opportunity to catch up for the kiddos that were out this week.  Apparently our class is being plagued by the flu virus!  I spoke with the school nurse and she said that it's been making it's way through the school since holiday break.  She's thinking that we might be the tail of things.  For how much I keep this classroom clean, I am surprised that the kiddos are spreading germs.  They most likely are being spread during cafeteria time, playground time, etc. because I am a CLEAN FREAK!  I sanitize the tables, door handles, light switches, etc daily!  So please know that I'm doing the best I can to keep your kiddos healthy!!

So....this week's spelling words will be tested next Friday, the 22nd.  We will also have our reading test then.  Please see previous entry for the spelling list.  (Unit 3 Week 2)

NO TESTING TODAY!!

Originally, I was planning to test students on spelling and reading today.  However, due to the amount of student absences this week, I am not going to test for this week.  No spelling and reading tests this week! 

DIAPER DERBY

I introduced a fun game to the class today called "Diaper Derby."  It's a math fact practice game and you can find the link on http://www.fun4thebrain.com/addition/diaperadd.html.  They dress up a baby and then answer math facts as quickly as they can.  The babies race to the finish!  Happy Adding! :)

Valentine's Day Celebration

Tomorrow is Valentine's Day and CRAZY HAIR DAY for our class!!!  Remind your child to wear their craziest hair-do tomorrow!  Also, see my previous Valentine's Day post for a class list of names to put on Valentine's.  FUN!

100 year old ladies!!!

I wish you could all be here to share in the fun and excitement of our day!!  These ladies and gentleman are definitely playing the part!!  I am hearing lots of moans and groans... Some "What did you just say? I  can't hear you!" and "Ooohhh... my back!"  Not to mention the voices that they're using today!  I can not stop laughing!! Your kids are awesome!!!
